Beyond Appearances: A Lesson in Spiritual Discernment
By Lokanath Mishra
In the city of Rourkela, a place of spiritual seekers and industrial might, a story unfolded that would teach many a valuable lesson. A woman named Kavita, known for her beauty and entrepreneurial spirit, owned a lodge and restaurant that attracted many visitors. However, beneath her charming facade, Kavita harbored a dark secret.

Unbeknownst to her patrons, Kavita had been using her charm and beauty to lure men into her trap, exploiting them for financial gain. Her actions were not only morally reprehensible but also caused immense harm to those who crossed her path. It wasn’t until one of her victims, a steel plant employee, found the courage to speak out that Kavita’s true nature was revealed.

This incident serves as a poignant reminder that appearances can be deceiving. We often judge others based on how they look, assuming that physical beauty is a reflection of inner goodness. Yet, as the story of Kavita illustrates, this assumption can be far from reality.

A similar lesson can be learned from a YouTube video that showcased a young man’s bias. When asked to choose between two women, one with a white complexion and the other with a darker skin tone, he chose the former, citing her beauty and decency. However, the anchor’s revelation that the beautiful woman was actually a pornographer, while the darker-skinned woman was a doctor, left the young man shocked and embarrassed.

These stories highlight the importance of looking beyond physical appearances and focusing on the character and actions of individuals. By doing so, we can cultivate a deeper sense of spiritual discernment, one that allows us to see beyond the surface level and connect with others on a more meaningful level.

As we navigate our spiritual journeys, it is essential to remember that true beauty lies within. By embracing this truth, we can build more authentic relationships and foster a sense of compassion and understanding that transcends physical appearances.
