A Cautionary Tale of Love and Relationships: Sima and Shiva’s Story: ( Based on a true story)
By Lokanath Mishra:
In a society where financial security often takes center stage, a young couple’s journey serves as a poignant reminder that true happiness cannot be bought. Sima, a brilliant and beautiful 19-year-old, found herself at a crossroads when her family pressured her into marrying Shiva, a 25-year-old government employee with a modest income.
Despite initial reservations, Sima was drawn to Shiva’s kind heart and genuine nature. However, her desire for financial security and societal validation soon began to erode their relationship. Shiva’s salary of Rs 40,000 became a constant source of tension, with Sima feeling that he was incapable of providing for her.

As Sima’s dissatisfaction grew, she began to question her decision to marry Shiva. Her friends’ advice to insist that Shiva take bribes only reinforced her misguided notions about the importance of wealth in a relationship. Shiva, however, remained committed to their marriage, refusing to compromise his values.
When Sima eventually left him, citing his inability to provide for her, Shiva was heartbroken. As the divorce proceedings unfolded, Sima was forced to confront the harsh realities of independence. She took up a job as a typist, earning a salary of Rs 10,000, a far cry from the Rs 40,000 she had grown accustomed to.
Meanwhile, Shiva’s career took an unexpected turn, and he received a promotion that increased his salary to Rs 56,000. As Sima learned of his good fortune, she realized that she had overestimated the importance of money in their relationship.

In a dramatic turn of events, Sima begged Shiva for forgiveness and asked him to withdraw the divorce petition. She acknowledged that love, understanding, and cooperation were the essential ingredients of a successful marriage, not just wealth.
As the young couple reunited, their story served as a powerful reminder that true happiness and fulfillment cannot be measured by one’s bank account. Relationships built on mutual respect, trust, and communication are the keys to a lasting and fulfilling partnership.
The wise judge who presided over their divorce proceedings aptly said, “Once the relationship turns sour, life gets spoiled. If you want, you can make a new beginning. There is no shortage of money, but it cannot be said that your basic needs cannot be fulfilled.” Sima and Shiva’s story is a testament to the importance of prioritizing love, values, and relationships over material wealth.
