Instant Karma
By Lokanath Mishra
Rabi’s life took a dramatic turn when he met Madhusmita, a receptionist at a hospital in a nearby town. He had gone to visit a friend who was admitted after an accident, and while waiting, he struck up a conversation with Madhusmita. They quickly became friends, and Rabi was drawn to her charm and beauty.

Without revealing his marital status, Rabi wooed Madhusmita with luxury treats and gifts. He took her to fine dining restaurants, bought her high-fashion bags, and even took her on a fun trip in his flamboyant sports car. Madhusmita, unaware of Rabi’s married life, fell deeply in love with him.
Rabi eventually married Madhusmita in a temple, keeping his marital status a secret. However, the truth came crashing down when Madhusmita discovered that Rabi was already married to Parimita, who was actually her friend.

Madhusmita was devastated and felt betrayed. She filed a complaint with the police, and Rabi was arrested and sent to jail. She was furious not only at Rabi’s deception but also at the fact that he had married her without disclosing his previous marriage.
The court took a stern view of Rabi’s actions, and he was convicted of bigamy. He spent years in jail, reflecting on his mistakes and the harm he had caused to the people he loved.
After his release, Rabi tried to make amends and reach out to both Parimita and Madhusmita. However, both women had moved on with their lives and refused to take him back. They had found strength and independence, and they didn’t need Rabi’s presence in their lives.
As Rabi stood at their doorsteps, one by one, he was met with rejection and anger. Both Parimita and Madhusmita made it clear that they would never forgive him for his betrayal. Rabi was left alone, a shadow of his former self, forced to confront the consequences of his actions.
The story serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of deception and the importance of honesty in relationships. Rabi’s actions had far-reaching consequences, causing harm to the people he loved and ultimately leading to his downfall.
Madhusmita married Santosh, a security supervisor, and they lived happily together. Santosh worked at a reputed hotel, where he witnessed an incredible display of instant karma one of those days when he saw a peculiar incident. A poor man, in his 50s, and his friend, a woman in her 30s, were asking passersby for money. Rabi, who was busy with his phone, reacted aggressively when asked for spare change.
The poor man politely apologized and moved on, but Rabi’s behavior didn’t improve. He shouted at the poor man, “I fucking told you to fuck off!” The poor man stood his ground, responding, “Fuck you, I’m asking someone else.” The situation escalated quickly, with Rabi taking off his belt and seemingly intent on beating the poor man.

However, as Rabi took a step forward, his trousers fell down, and he stumbled down a slight decline on the pavement. He did a comical “penguin” walk for four short steps before face-planting into the curb. The crowd erupted into laughter at the absurd sight, and Santosh couldn’t help but join in.
Rabi’s bright white Y-fronts were exposed, and he was left with a red face, trying to get back up. Santosh refused to let him back into the hotel, and instead, he mocked Rabi’s ridiculous situation. “Instant karma,” Santosh thought to himself, shaking his head in amusement.
The poor man and his friend continued on their way, seemingly unaffected by the encounter. Rabi, on the other hand, slunk away, embarrassed. Santosh couldn’t help but think that the universe had a way of dealing with people who treated others poorly.

Santosh shared the story with Madhusmita, and they both had a good laugh about it. They were grateful for their own happy relationship and the kindness they showed each other. Madhusmita was happy to have found someone like Santosh, who was kind and understanding. She knew that she had made the right decision in leaving Rabi and starting a new life with Santosh.
