The earth is protected by the UNIVERSE from the harmful effects from other stars, milkyways, asteroids, and other artificial satellites by the stratosphere which encircles the earth and it exerts pressure on all living beings for their good and bad life.
In the puja all Brahmins perform the act citing Dhenu Mudra Chapagunthana. This is done to release the pressure so devided on individual and family exerting pressure on the jajamans. Otherwise it is believed by most of the Hindus, the pressure of the Dhenu over the earth has an impact on their day today life. Further they also believe; consequent on the breaking of the Chapa they also gain punya and lead a trouble free normal life.
When Mahadev wanted to kill Tapan leading the rebirth life of Samba, lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma saved him without the knowledge of Mahadev by applying the full Dhenuchapa in the year 2005 on Tapan by breaking the pressure of Dhenu as he was continuously chanting Papa, papa, papa …dhenu mudra chapa, for about two hours.
