A Spiritual Sojourn : My Visit to the Ponnuru Anjaneya Swamy Temple

On 15.03.25, I had the privilege of visiting the revered Ponnuru Anjaneya Swamy Temple, nestled in the picturesque town of Ponnuru, near Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. As I stepped into the temple complex, I was struck by the serenity and tranquility that pervaded the atmosphere.

The temple’s crowning glory is the magnificent 24-foot tall, monolithic statue of Lord Hanuman, carved from a single black granite stone. This towering masterpiece is a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the artisans who created it. As I gazed upon the statue, I felt a deep sense of reverence and awe, and my heart swelled with devotion to the mighty Lord Hanuman.

As I explored the temple complex, I was struck by the intricate carvings and sculptures that adorned the walls and pillars. The temple’s history, which dates back to 1969, is a fascinating tale of devotion and perseverance. Kota Jagannadha Swamy, the founder of the temple, had a vision to create a sacred space that would inspire and uplift the faithful.

One of the temple’s most striking features is the 30-foot long statue of Garuda, Lord Vishnu’s vahana, which is also carved from a single stone. This magnificent sculpture is a testament to the temple’s commitment to preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage.

As I wandered through the temple complex, I discovered several other deities worshipped within the temple, including Shiva, Venkateswara, and Dasavatharas. The Sahasra Lingeswara Temple, located within the complex, is another notable feature that adds to the temple’s spiritual significance.

Throughout my visit, I was struck by the temple’s accessibility and amenities. The wheelchair-accessible parking lot and the temple’s well-maintained facilities ensure that devotees of all ages and abilities can participate in the temple’s activities and worship.

As I departed the Ponnuru Anjaneya Swamy Temple, I felt a deep sense of peace and spiritual renewal. My visit to this sacred site was a truly enriching experience, and I look forward to returning to this magnificent temple in the future.
