Lalita, 24, from West Bengal was very beautiful and daughter of a rich businessman visited Konark with her family. She fell in love with Jagu, 19, a poor photographer. Subsequently they married and had three children, but only their son Hari survived. Jagu had tuberculosis, and Lalita worked as a tourist guide to support him. After Jagu’s death, Lalita stayed in Konark. Later, she met an American tourist at Chandrabhaga sea beach, who loved her and married her. They moved to Alaska with Hari. They had a happy married life and a daughter.

Lalita’s life took a dramatic turn when her husband, John, abandoned her and their two children in Alaska. With no means to support her family, Lalita made a courageous decision to join an Arctic expedition to Wrangel Island. Her determination to provide for her children drove her to brave the unforgiving environment.

Despite the challenges, Lalita’s love for her children fueled her resilience. She hunted, built shelters, and survived the extreme cold, earning her the nickname “the female Robinson Crusoe.” Her story captivated the world, and the financial rewards from the expedition enabled her to reunite with her children in Seattle.

Lalita’s journey was far from over. She remarried Abraham and had another son. Together, they built a happy life, and Lalita’s children thrived. As she grew old, Lalita’s story became a testament to the unyielding power of a mother’s love.
