The entire programme, efficiently organised by the Tricity team of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, deserves wholehearted appreciation. The meticulous planning, disciplined execution and meaningful deliberations transformed the AGM into a model event for other units of the All India Pensioners Association of CBIC. From the solemn obituary for departed members to the presentation of mementos to senior members and election officials, every aspect reflected the values of respect, gratitude and organizational excellence.

Special appreciation is due to Shri Rajesh Rai, President of the Chandigarh Unit, whose inspiring leadership and warm welcome to the delegates set the tone for the proceedings. His commitment to strengthening the association and bringing together pensioners from five States and Union Territories deserves the highest commendation. Equally praiseworthy is the dedicated contribution of Shri Prem Kumar, General Secretary, who meticulously presented the agenda and ensured the smooth conduct of the meeting. The harmonious coordination between the President and the General Secretary exemplifies the teamwork necessary for building a vibrant and effective pensioners’ organization.

The presence of Hon’ble Member of Parliament and former Union Minister Shri Manish Tewari as the Chief Guest added immense significance to the occasion. The presentation of a detailed memorandum highlighting the non-implementation of court judgments in REM matters, delay in release of arrears and deficiencies in CGHS Wellness Centres reflected the association’s constructive approach towards resolving the long-pending grievances of pensioners. His assurance to pursue these issues with the concerned Ministries has generated fresh hope among pensioners across the country.

The AGM also highlighted the invaluable contributions made in the past by Shri A.K. Sharma towards cadre restructuring and related service matters, demonstrating that dedicated leadership can bring meaningful change through persistent efforts and constructive dialogue.

The recent programme organized by the Chandigarh Zone deserves wholehearted appreciation and recognition. Such initiatives not only bring together retired officers and staff on a common platform but also strengthen the bonds of fraternity, mutual support and collective awareness among pensioners. The organizing team deserves sincere congratulations for its meticulous planning, enthusiastic execution and unwavering commitment to the welfare of retired members.

In an era when pensioners often remain disconnected from developments affecting their rights and entitlements, gatherings of this nature serve a much greater purpose than mere social interaction. They provide an opportunity to disseminate information regarding pension policies, legal developments, health issues, digital services and welfare measures. More importantly, they reinforce the spirit of unity, reminding every pensioner that they continue to be an integral part of the larger CBIC family.

The success of the Chandigarh AGM should inspire every State and regional unit of the All India Pensioners Association of CBIC to organize similar events at regular intervals. Such meetings can become powerful platforms for educating members about their rights, addressing their grievances collectively, encouraging active participation and building solidarity among pensioners across the country. A united pensioners’ movement is always better equipped to represent legitimate concerns before the authorities and secure justice whenever required.

The remarkable progress achieved by the Association at the national level is a reflection of the dedicated leadership of its office bearers. In particular, the Secretary General, Shri Ravi Malik, has been rendering exceptional service for the benefit of CBIC pensioners. His long and distinguished career as an association leader is well known throughout the department. Before assuming the present responsibility, he served as Secretary General of the All India Central Excise Gazetted Executive Officers’ Association for an impressive period of thirteen years. During that tenure, he demonstrated extraordinary commitment, perseverance and leadership in safeguarding the interests of officers and employees. His experience and vision continue to guide the pensioners’ movement with remarkable effectiveness.

Equally deserving of appreciation is the President of the Association, Shri Ashok Sharma, whose distinguished record of service to association activities speaks for itself. He served as President of the AIACEGEO Chandigarh Unit and later as the All India President of the IRS Promotee Officers’ Association. Throughout his association career, he has consistently worked with sincerity and dedication for the welfare of his colleagues. During the challenging periods relating to CR-13 and DPC-14, Shri Ashok Sharma extended invaluable support and cooperation to Shri Ravi Malik, contributing significantly to the collective efforts made for the benefit of officers. His leadership has always been characterized by integrity, determination and a genuine concern for the welfare of members.

The combined efforts of Shri Ravi Malik and Shri Ashok Sharma have provided the All India Pensioners Association of CBIC with dynamic and visionary leadership. Their dedication inspires confidence among pensioners that their concerns are being represented by experienced and committed individuals who understand both administrative complexities and the aspirations of retired employees.

The Chandigarh AGM has once again demonstrated that committed local leadership can effectively complement national vision. The exemplary efforts of Shri Rajesh Rai, Shri Prem Kumar and their entire team have shown how a well-organised regional unit can become a catalyst for awareness, unity and purposeful action. Their initiative deserves to be emulated by every State and regional unit across India.

As pensioners across the country look towards the future, it is essential that every regional unit follows the example set by this successful programme. Organizing annual general meetings, seminars, interactive sessions, welfare camps and awareness programmes will not only strengthen the Association but will also empower pensioners with knowledge, confidence and a renewed sense of belonging.
